  1. Osteoarthritis, rheumatism, arthritis : Plant part used: Aerial parts. Documented pharmacological profile: Indometacine-like.
According to SACHIN KUMAR (n.d.): The effect of HEAB was investigated for anti-inflammatory activity using Carrageenan induced paw edema (acute), cotton pellet granuloma (subacute) and formaldéhyde induced arthritis (chronic) method. The anti-inflammatory activity of HEAB (100, 200 & 400 mg/kg, p.o.) showed significant (p<0.05) decrease in carrageenan induced paw edema. According to Melo-Coutinho HD (2018): The aim of this work was to evaluate the phytochemical profile, the toxic effect using the Drosophila melanogaster animal model & the anti-inflammatory & antimicrobial effect of the Alternanthera brasiliana ethanol extract.
  2. Convulsion, epilepsy : Plant part used: Aerial parts. Documented pharmacological profile: Phénytoïne-like.
According to Schellenberger C (2017): In this study, the potential anticonvulsant effect of A brasiliana extract was investigated using an animal model of acute epilepsy induced by pentylenetetrazol (PTZ). :Epilepsy is a disorder that affects 1-2% of the population and a significant percentage of these patients do not respond to anticonvulsant drugs available in the market suggesting the need to investigate new pharmacological treatments. According to -Oyemita A (2015): This study evaluated ethanolic leaf extract of the plant for novelty-induced behaviour, anxiety, sedation and convulsion in mice.
  3. Bacterial infection : Plant part used: Sheet. Documented pharmacological profile: Ampicilline-like, Cefoperazone-like, Imipenem-like.
According to Melo-Coutinho HD (2018): However, when the EEAB was associated with gentamicin, a synergism against all bacterial strains assayed was observed: Staphylococcus aureus (SA10), Escherichia coli (EC06) & Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA24). The aim of this work was to evaluate the phytochemical profile, the toxic effect using the Drosophila melanogaster animal model & the anti-inflammatory & antimicrobial effect of the Alternanthera brasiliana ethanol extract. According to PEREIRA D (2007): The results demonstrate that the crude extract and some fractions showed moderate activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Saccharomyces cerevisiae & Prototheca zopffi.

Further indications (including other extraction modes where applicable), dosages, precautions for use and full scientific references are available in the complete monograph.
