Clerodendrum paniculatum (Pagôd) : medicinal properties in alcoholic extraction

Clerodendrum paniculatum (Pagôd) — family Verbénacées.

This database documents alcoholic (ethanol) extractions of active substances. Our monograph currently lists 7 indications in alcoholic extraction for this species. The monograph draws on 15 scientific references recorded for the species.

Therapeutic indications in alcoholic extraction:

Note: scientific reference excerpts are kept in their original language (most often English), without translation, to respect the source text of publications.

  1. Osteoarthritis, arthritis, rheumatism, oedema : Plant part used: Sheet. Documented pharmacological profile: Acetosal-like.
According to Joseph J (2013): This study was intended to evaluate the antiinflammatory activity of various extracts of fresh leaves of Clerodendrum paniculatum experimentally by in vitro (human red blood cell membrane stabilization method) & in vivo methods (0.1 ml of 1% w/v carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema model). Petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, alcohol, & aqueous extracts were screened for in vitro antiinflammatory activity. According to Hafiz I (2016): The antiinflammatory activity was evaluated by paw edema & granuloma cotton pellet method.
  2. Cancer : Plant part used: Root. Documented pharmacological profile: Cisplatine-like.
According to Kalonio DE (2017): This paper aims to review the anticancer activity of plant genus Clerodendrum based on scientific data. Results of the molecular docking simulation of chemical content of these plants could potentially provide an anticancer effect. According to John J (2008): Although the extract showed significant antioxidant activity, its anticancer potential was not significant,.
  3. Oxidative stress : Plant part used: Flower. Documented pharmacological profile: Acide ascorbique-like.
According to John J (2008): The plants of the genus Clerodendron were reported to have antioxidant & anti-inflammatory activities also. Although the extract showed significant antioxidant activity, its anticancer potential was not significant,. According to Hafiz I (2019): The results showed that the ethanol extract of CP flowers has antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 64.889 ppm (strong).

Further indications (including other extraction modes where applicable), dosages, precautions for use and full scientific references are available in the complete monograph.
