- Cancer : Plant part used: Seed. Mentioned synergistic association: SORENAFIB.
According to Yeh W (2021): In addition, the NB group had lower liver weight & hepatic triglyceride & cholesterol concentrations than did the NN group. Compared with the NN group, the high-dose NB group had improved steatosis, lower hepatic TNF-α, IL-1β & IL-6 levels, && lower adipose leptin levels. According to LI H (2024): Numerous pharmacological effects of Coix seed have been demonstrated through modern pharmacological studies, such as hypoglycemia, improving liver function, anti-tumor, regulating intestinal microbiota, improving spleen function, & anti-inflammatory effects. - Neurodegenerative disorders (taupathies) : Plant part used: Fruit Skin.
According to Tsay GJ (2021): These extracts & its bioactive compound K36-21 may be potentially useful to treat neurodegenerative disorders. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) in senile plaques, contributing to oxidative stress, mitochondrial diseases, & synaptic atrophy, consequently leading to the deterioration of brain function. According to Zhang CF (2019): Objective: This study evaluates the ameliorative effects of adlay seed extract (ASE) in a complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced rheumatoid arthritis (RA) rats. - High blood pressure, fluid retention, oedema : Plant part used: Seed. Documented pharmacological profile: Captopril-like.
According to Li B (n.d.): Single oral administration of synthesized GAAGGAF at 15 mg/kg body weight (BW) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) could reduce the systolic blood pressure (SBP) around 27.50 mmHg & the effect lasted for at least 8 h. The study demonstrated for the first time that the ACE inhibitory peptide GAAGGAF from Coixglutelin has a significant antihypertensive effect, & it could be a good natural ingredient for pharmaceuticals against hypertension & the related diseases. According to SUI Y (2024): LPS-induced inflammation in RAW264.7 cells was well inhibited by compounds.
