  1. Osteoarthritis, arthritis, rheumatism, oedema : Plant part used: Root. Documented pharmacological profile: Diclofénac-like.
According to Muthumani P (2010): In the present study, the anti-inflammatory, diuretic activity of ethanolic, ethylacetate extracts & Colum isolated compound SU I of whole plant of BE were studied & the activity was compared with Diclofenac sodium, Furosemide as standard. The anti-inflammatory activity showed*** P< 0.001, ** P< 0.01, * P< 0.02. According to Compaoré M (2018): The different fractions were compared according to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory activities, total phenolic, & total flavonoid contents.
  2. High blood pressure, vasoconstriction, fluid retention : Plant part used: Stem. Documented pharmacological profile: Furosemide-like.
According to Compaoré M (2018): Conclusion: The B engleri & BE fractions possessed a potential antioxidant for fighting oxidative stress & helping to prevent diabetes, hypertension, & cardiovascular diseases.
  3. Oxidative stress : Plant part used: Sheet. Documented pharmacological profile: Acide ascorbique-like, BHT-like, EDTA-like.
According to Govindan P (2013): Results: The antioxidant activity of BE ethanolic extract is comparable to a certain extent with that of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), mannitol, EDTA, & ascorbic acid. Oxidative stress induced by oxygen radicals is believed to be a primary factor in various degenerative diseases such as cancer, atherosclerosis gastric ulcer. According to Compaoré M (2018): Conclusion: The B engleri & BE fractions possessed a potential antioxidant for fighting oxidative stress & helping to prevent diabetes, hypertension, & cardiovascular diseases.
