- Bacterial infection : Plant part used: Flower. Documented pharmacological profile: Kanamycine-like, Pénicilline-like, Streptomycine-like, Rifamycine-like, Cefotaxime-like.
According to Author (2009): In addition to this, these extracts exhibited significant zone of inhibition & good antimicrobial activity against the majority of the selected strains of microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus niger & Fusarium species. (Asclepiadaceae) were evaluated for antimicrobial activity. According to Hadia G (n.d.): The antibacterial activity was checked against Enterobacter (clinical strain/PIMS), Micrococcus luteus (clinical strain/PIMS), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (clinical strain/PIMS), E.coli ATCC 25922, Staphylococcus aureus (clinical strain/PIMS) & Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 700603. - Bacterial infection : Plant part used: Sheet. Documented pharmacological profile: Ofloxacine-like.
According to Hadia G (n.d.): The antibacterial activity was checked against Enterobacter (clinical strain/PIMS), Micrococcus luteus (clinical strain/PIMS), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (clinical strain/PIMS), E.coli ATCC 25922, Staphylococcus aureus (clinical strain/PIMS) & Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 700603. Datura stramonium branches and leaves sample in three different solvents benzene, chloroform & ethanol was extracted & assessed for antibacterial & antifungal activity. - Diarrhoea : Plant part used: Sheet. Documented pharmacological profile: Atropine-like.
According to Author (2013): Exp-1 results showed that both DS extract doses caused a dose dependent antidiarrhoeal effect manifested by significant decrease in charcoal intestinal travelling distance & percent (ITP) which is similar to atropine sulphate (0.1 mg/kgBW IP) for the high DS extract dose. While Ex-2 results showed the superiority of DS extract via decreasing the intestinal castor oil enteropooling effect than atropine sulphate (0.3 mg/Kg BW) possibily because the DS extract may have another active mechanism beside its antimuscarinic effect due to its tropane alkaloids content. According to Shrama M (2021): stramonium commonly known as Datura or Jimson Weed, exhibit potent analgesic, antiviral, anti-diarrheal, and anti-inflammatory activities, owing to the wide range of bioactive constituents.
