Leucas martinicensis (Button-zèb) — family Lamiacées.

This database documents alcoholic (ethanol) extractions of active substances. Our monograph currently lists 10 indications in alcoholic extraction for this species. The monograph draws on 20 scientific references recorded for the species.

Therapeutic indications in alcoholic extraction:

Note: scientific reference excerpts are kept in their original language (most often English), without translation, to respect the source text of publications.

  1. Bacterial infection : Plant part used: Fruit. Documented pharmacological profile: Gentamycine-like.
Selon OBARE R (2020) : Axenic cultures & ethyl acetate extracts displayed antagonistic activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae & Salmonella typhi unlike pure compounds. Antibacterial activities against five bacterial pathogens were determined using dual cultures & disc diffusion assay for ethyl acetate extracts & pure compounds. Selon SY T (2016) : The antibacterial screening of the extract against clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli & Klebsiella species showed a dose dependent inhibitory activity.
  2. Convulsion, convulsive seizure : Plant part used: Fruit. Documented pharmacological profile: Diazépam-like.
Selon RAMALINGAN R (2014) : The extract treated groups showed late on set of seizures, decreased duration & intensity of seizure when compared with vehicle treated group. Objective: The present study was aimed to investigate the antiepileptic activity of ethanolic extract of whole plant of LM against pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) induced seizures in mice. Selon Ugwah-Oguejiofor CJ (2015) : Ugwah-Oguejiofor CJ et al, Anticonvulsant & sedative activities of aqueous leave extract of Leucas martinicensis (Jacq.) R.Br.
  3. Malaria : Plant part used: Pest control and veterinary products. Documented pharmacological profile: Chloroquine-like.

Further indications (including other extraction modes where applicable), dosages, precautions for use and full scientific references are available in the complete monograph.
